What is good shabbos?

Good Shabbos, also known as Shabbat Shalom in Hebrew, is a greeting exchanged by Jews on the Holy Sabbath day, which is observed from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. Shabbat is a day of rest, peace, and spiritual reflection for Jewish people, and it is considered the most important day of the week.

The traditions of Shabbat vary across movements of Judaism, but generally include lighting candles, reciting prayers, sharing a festive meal with family and friends, attending synagogue services, and refraining from work, writing, cooking, using electronic devices, and other activities considered to be “creative labor”.

During Shabbat, Jews also engage in Torah study, singing songs, and spending quality time with their loved ones. It is a special time to disconnect from the secular world and to focus on spiritual growth and building stronger relationships within the community.

Wishing someone a Good Shabbos or Shabbat Shalom is a way of expressing well wishes for a peaceful and restful Sabbath, and it is a beautiful way to connect with Jewish traditions and culture.
